Toronto: Orlando Bloom, Michael Douglas Join Noomi Rapace in Thriller ‘Unlocked’
Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom will join Noomi Rapace in the thriller “Unlocked” with shooting set to start Nov. 3.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing along with Georgina Townsley and Erik Howsam. Silver Reel will finance and produce with di Bonaventura.
Alex Walton and Ken Kao’s new Bloom banner is introducing the film at the Toronto International Film Festival.
British director Michael Apted will direct from a screenplay by Peter O’Brien.
Rapace will play a CIA interrogator who unwittingly provides information to terrorists — triggering a race against the clock to stop a biological warfare attack on London. She became attached to the project earlier this year.
Bloom will be seen next in “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” and he recently came on board Shane Black’s detective thriller “The Nice Guys.” Douglas was most recently seen in “And So It Goes” and is filming “Ant-Man.” Rapace stars in crime-drama “The Drop,” which screened Saturday at Toronto in the Special Presentations section, with the late James Gandolfini and Tom Hardy.
Di Bonaventura produced “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” Silver Reel has financed 22 projects since 2009 including “Under the Skin,” “The Railway Man” and “A Hologram for a King,” starring Tom Hanks.
Douglas is represented by UTA. Bloom is represented by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Raprace is represented by CAA and Magnolia Entertainment. Apted is represented by CAA and the Gotham Group.

This is exciting! I love Michael Douglas, and Noomi Rapace is so talented, too. I am looking forward to hearing more about this film, especially Orlando's role.

The Nice Guys also stars Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, and Shane Black, according to IMDB. I am intrigued by this film as well!

I think there's been some confusion about Orlando being on board The Nice Guys due to the production and financing company BLOOM representing Unlocked and The Nice Guys. Variety have edited their article to remove "and he recently came on board Shane Black’s detective thriller The Nice Guys". The Hollywood Reporter's article has also been edited.

They'll star opposite Noomi Repace in the Michael Apted-directed thriller
Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom have come aboard to star opposite Noomi Repace in filmmaker Michael Apted's thriller Unlocked, about a CIA interrogator who unwittingly provides information information to terrorists planning to wage a biological warfare attack on London.
Alex Walton and Ken Kao's Bloom (no connection to Orlando Bloom) is representing international rights and are pre-selling the project to foreign buyers at the Toronto Film Festival. Lorenzo DiBonaventura is producing Unlocked alongside Georgina Townsley and Erik Howsam. Silver Reel is financing, and will also produce.
Apted is set to begin shooting Nov. 3 from a script by Peter O'Brien. In the film, the CIA officer, played by Repace, rushes to stop the attack.
“I am delighted to introduce this fresh, smart European thriller to buyers in Toronto,” Walton said. “With three major studio movies in production, Noomi Rapace is becoming one of the hottest female international stars working today. When you add Michael Apted, Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom, you have a commercial package that I am confident will draw strong interest.”
Douglas is in Toronto for the Sept. 7 world premiere of The Reach, a thriller set in the Mojave desert. He stars opposite Jeremy Irvine (War Horse).
Douglas is represented by UTA, while Orlando Bloom is represented by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
In Toronto, Kao and Walton's Bloom is also shopping Shane Black's newly announced detective thriller, The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. And the company is currently in production on Gus Van Sant's The Sea of Trees, starring Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe and Naomi Watts.

OMG! :w00t: This is so exciting and I was just wondering to myself when Orlando was going to be doing a new project. Unlocked sounds like it will be exciting.

I am also thrilled to see him working with Michael Douglas and with him in this movie makes me believe this will have a wider release when its ready to come out! :cheer2:

Michael Douglas, Orlando Bloom coming to Prague

‘Unlocked’ will be shot in Czech capital in the autumn
Prague, Sept. 22 (ČTK) — Big-name actors Michael Douglas (Wall Street, Behind the Candelabra and recently in And So It Goes) and Orlando Bloom (Legolas in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films) will be coming to the Czech Republic in November to shoot a new film, tentatively titled Unlocked, daily Hospodářské noviny (HN) writes today.
"It is really a big, high-budget film. The [Americans] will spend more than 100 million Kč in the Czech Republic," Kevan van Thompson, from Czech Anglo Productions, which is in charge of the Czech film shooting, is quoted as saying.
The film will be the story of a CIA agent, a character to be played by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, best known as the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in the Swedish film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, the daily writes.
According to the Internet Movie Database online, Michael Apted (who directed the 007 film The World Is Not Enough and the Up documentary series, among others), will be in the director’s chair.
Foreign producers' interest in film shooting in the Czech Republic has been rising, as has been the Czech state's spending on incentives for foreign film makers, HN says.
"Last year, the state earmarked 500 million Kč for incentives, and 800 million Kč this year. Culture Minister Daniel Herman said a similar sum will be available in the years to come as well," the paper adds.
The incentives enable filmmakers to get back 20 percent of the sum they spend on film production in the Czech Republic.

This is going to be something to see. The location shots in the Czech republic should be amazing. How exciting for Orlando and the rest of the cast!

John Malkovich and Toni Collette are joining Noomi Rapace, Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom in the thriller “Unlocked.”
Sales-financing banner Bloom, which introduced the project at Toronto, is selling rights at AFM.
Michael Apted is directing from a screenplay by Peter O’Brien. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Georgina Townsley and Erik Howsam. Claudia Blumhuber is also producing and financing through Silver Reel.
Shooting began Nov. 3 on the movie, which centers on a CIA interrogator — played by Rapace — who unwittingly provides information to terrorists and then must race against the clock to stop a biological warfare attack on London.

AFM: Bloom Sells Noomi Rapace Starrer ‘Unlocked’ To Major Territories

Michael Apted’s “Unlocked,” starring Noomi Rapace as a CIA interrogator, has sold to a flurry of territories at the AFM, where Alex Walton’s Bloom is shopping the project.
Bloom pre-sold the pic to Benelux (DFW), Eastern Europe (Forum), Germany (Square One), Italy (Notorious Pictures), Greece (Italia), India (Italia), Indonesia (PT Amero), Israel (United King), Latin America (Sun), Middle East (Italia), Spain (Tripictures), Turkey (Italia), and the UK (Lionsgate).
Project turns on a CIA interrogator who unwittingly provides information to terrorists and then must race against the clock to stop a biological warfare attack on London. Michael Douglas, Orlando Bloom, John Malkovich and Toni Collette also star.
“Buyers truly resonated with ‘Unlocked’ as it is an exceptional package. Between the caliber of talent, filmmakers, and fresh script – it really has all the components to make a successful and commercial film worldwide,” said Bloom’s Alex Walton.
Based on Peter O’Brien’s screenplay, the female Bourne-style thriller is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (“Transformers: Age of Extinction,” as well as Georgina Townsley and Erik Howsam. Claudia Blumhuber is producing and financing through Silver Reel.
Filming will begin on Nov. 3.

WOW! That is exciting news about John Malkovich and Toni Collette joining the cast. I remember John Malkovich in the Man In The Iron Mask with Leo DiCaprio and I just saw him in Crossbones which was a series on NBC. This sounds like it is going to be an exciting movie and what a great cast! Hopefully with these stars in this movie it will get a wider release.
