I ran across somthing interesting just now. There is an article in the Times Online listing the top ten film stars in the West End. Orlando was listed as number 5.

5. Orlando Bloom- Hard to emulate the great Brian Cox, who created the role in 1969, but the portrayal by Keira Knightley’s Pirates . . . co-star Bloom as the upwardly mobile, inwardly agonised miner’s son in David Storey’s In Celebration (2007) radiated the quiet pain the playwright wanted

Isn't that something?

Here's a link to the article.

What pleasure to read this critique from The Times. I wish I could obtain a DVD of the performance.
I was just thinking the exact thing!

I'll make it to London someday, but wasn't fortunate enough to be there while Orlando was on stage. How lovely would it be to have his performance on DVD at the very least? :sigh:

Thanks a bunch for the link, Serendipity!

I was just looking at my photos from my London trip, of course including outside the theatre, and it brought back some fond memories - and then this. *That* scene was so gut-wrenching. *sigh*

I wish he'd do more theatre (but not take so much time off afterwards, of course!). Thanks for the lovely tidbit.

I can remember that scene as if it were yesterday, and yes, my gut still wrenches! :quiver: The fact that it still does that to me all this time afterward, just goes to show what an amazing actor he is!

Thanks for this serendipity!

That is awesome! Orlando is finally getting some recognition for his outstanding portrayal of Steven Shaw! :cheer2: I never got the privilege of seeing him myself but after reading my fellow Ka-bloomies' reviews that got to see him, that is how I know he was outstanding!

Christina & Serenity, I agree with you about the DVD, that would be great if they could release this on DVD so that the rest of us could see him. :throb:

Thank you very much Serendipity for bringing this over! :snoopy:

It is so good to read this "again." I didn't get to see the play but thankfully was able to "see" it through the eyes of many of you who were able to make it. Thanks again for this well deserved tidbit and again for sharing your viewings of "In Celebration." Gosh it has been a while hasn't it!
