CaliMom
The book will be available in late October, with a gallery show opening at Jan Kesner Gallery in Los Angeles on November 3. A New York gallery show is in the works as well for November.I read on the book's webiste a while back (don't know what happened about posting it!) that it will also have gallery shows in Chicago and San Francisco. I'm sure we'll hear more about it as the time gets closer. Nothing yet so far regarding Chicago or San Francisco, but I found some upcoming events in L.A. at the Earth Aware Editions website: November 3, 2007 - Jan Kesner Gallery and Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles, CA: Gallery opening and party Early December, 2007 - Los Angeles Public Library, Los Angeles, CA: Book signing
CaliMom
While poking around for more info on promotion for the book, I found this at Sting.com. We have three copies of "ANTARCTICA - The Global Warming" signed by photographer Sebastian Copeland to give away in our new contest here on Sting.com. Sting endorsed the book with the comment "Sebastian Copeland's stunning photographs are a stark reminder of what we stand to lose. He has ventured to the bottom of the world and returned with a message that we cannot afford to ignore." To enter our draw to win one of these wonderful books all you need do is answer the following question: At which New York venue do Sting & Trudie host regular fundraising benefits concerts for the Rainforest Foundation? Email your answers to daveandwendy@sting.com no later than midnight on Sunday, November 4. Please note you must include your sting.com username, your real name, and your postal address in order for your entry to be valid. No multiple entries please!(While googling, I believe the answer is Carnegie Hall, but you should check around for yourself.)
chitosmommy
Thanks CaliMom. He is doing a book signing in Los Angeles, hopefully he will be able to do one in San Francisco. I would love to have my copy signed. I will be keeping a look out for when he will be in San Francisco. Thanks again.
Stardust
If I may, an excerp from Sebastian Copeland's Antarctica: The Global Warning, Message in a Bottle: A Global Effort, page 23. "Comfortable with conflict, today we are forced to accept that survival means we cannot fight nature but have to work with nature. Heeding that call will be our finest hour - ignoring it, our darkest. But no great achievement comes without sacrifice. And like the journey of a thousand miles, this one begins with one step: yours." Serenity Beautiful words. Working with people's minds is always hard, there are so many things to believe and feel. It takes pasion and Sebastian seems to have lots of it. Thanks for this little quote. Stardust.
cinemapersians
Yes, I agree, Stardust. I'm glad to see so much interest in not only Sebastian's book, but the environment itself. We all stand to gain (or lose if significant change doesn't happen and SOON) when it comes to this issue. Serenity, you take such time and effort in your postings to get information to us and write so beautifully. It warms my heart, makes me laugh and brings out the "I wish I could write like that" jealous monster in me, at times. I just wanted you to know that. You didn't write that excerpt, true, but you took the time to type it out and get it to us. I, for one, appreciate it. I really can't wait until I can get this book. I'm thinking a Christmas pressie to myself! :cheer: That's just the thing to get me in a holiday mood! - Pam -
cinemapersians
This is an update on entering the contest to win a copy of the book. I saw in this thread that you have to be a member of sting.com to enter the contest. I went to the site to join and found out that to become a member you have to purchase a ticket to a Sting concert or buy a membership to the web site for either $45.00 or $65.00. Then you can enter the contest with your sting.com user name, real name and postal address. I just didn't want anyone to get their hopes up and be disappointed. CaliMom agreed, so this post is just to give everyone a head's up on the contest stipulations. - Pam -
CaliMom
Thank you, Pam. My apologies to all that I didn't get complete information. I confess that I didn't check to see what was involved in becoming a member because I already have my own copy of the book. It would be cheaper to order the book from Amazon through our Shop link. It wouldn't be signed by Sebastian, but a portion of your purchase would not only benefit ka-Bloom, but also Global Green.

One week from today for the gallery opening, that's cutting it a bit close. But, early December for the book signing, that's a different story . . . Christmas present to myself, perhaps? What can I sell for gas, food, and lodging money? Anyone in the market for some twin three-year olds? Will any ka-Bloomies in the LA area try to make it to the signing? Pam, you are too kind. It is with a humble heart that I accept your praise. But, know, that you too are a writer, and have proven yourself adept at expressing your thoughts. reeceehorses
Ladies, I just received in the mail today this beautiful book. It is a book everyone must have and I would scan some of the book for you,but I don't have a scanner. The pictures Sebastian took just take your breath away and it also comes with a dvd about the making of the book. I think Sebastian captured so wonderfully the harshness but also the exquisite beauty of the region. Here's to you  Sebastian! reeceehorses
aliza
My book came today also. What a coincidence. It is majestically beautiful. Sebastian's eye is incredible and the images are burning. I highly recommend getting your hands on this book if you possibly can. It's stupendous. I can't think of enough accolades. Aliza
Serenity
You, Aliza? Stumped for words? Wow. That in itself tells me it means the world to you! I get excited everytime someone receives their book in the mail because it lets me live vicarously through you and calls to mind the memory od unwrapping mine for the first time. I know you all will absolutely love his book. It is breathtaking. Literally. And there's rumour of a cute guy in a fuzzy hooded jacket at the end. Have to keep my eye out for him next time I find myself browsing. Serenity
Beth37
I just want to say that this is indeed a wonderful book. I didn't order a copy, I knew I couldn't afford it. However, the sneaky wonderful folks at my local Waldenbooks ordered one 'for the store' fully knowing that I'd want it. Happily a coupon became available during it's tenure at the store and I caved. I'm so very glad I have it, and not just for the guy in the fuzzy hood. Beth

Goldi
What a coincidence! I'll get it tomorrow morning. Well, in fact it arrived this morning but I wasn't at home so the mailman left me a note. Elvira
I've been intrigued by this book since we first heard about it and finally I decided to open an account with Amazon.com through ka-Bloom link. I bought a copy for myself as a birthday present and one for BIL and SIL for Christmas. Needless to say I'm eagerly waiting for it to arrive! The family are in for a surprise as they don't know about the Orlando connection with this book.
Serenity
Elvira, how fantastic that you're not only getting a copy for yourself, but for two others as gifts! You will not be disappointed upon they're arrival. It's worth every penny and every minute you spend in anticipation. Do keep us posted and tell us what you think when it arrives. Elvira
My book arrived today! Boy, it came fast. Unfortunately Amazon had put it in a box too big and it had moved around, so one corner was a bit damaged. Not to worry, it's what's inside the book that matters. The photos are spectacular. I'm sure I'll be spending quite a lot of time with this book. I've decided not to reveal the "family connection" to hubby and kids until they find it themselves. I'm going to see how long it takes. I have no life, I'm easily amused.
Sam
Hubby has pre-ordered this for me as a Christmas present. He told me because he wasn't sure when the release date was, I've had a little snoop and it's 31st January 2008! I'll just have to be patient! Elvira, my Hubby doesn't know the family connection either. Enjoy your copy.

We have taken our time and enjoyed every picture and the Dvd. All is so breathtaking, so amazing. Sebastian has acute powers of observation and a big talent! Thank you for this demonstration of sensitivity. Thanks for the trip.
