Leia
Oh, and is anyone else disappointed that the sweeping organ music from the Black Pearl's entrance to Shipwreck Cove and the elvish-sounding choir when Bootstrap and the FD crew approach the dying Will are missing from the soundtrack. Those are two of my favorite pieces of music from any of the movies. I wish they had put out the entire original motion picture score instead of just the snippets. I know, I find it very disappointing, too! Such a great soundtrack should have ALL the music. But think about Titanic, Braveheart and Gladiator.: there's always a chance that there's gonna be a "more music from." soundtrack!

chitosmommy
I went back on Sunday to watch AWE again. I did not see the PJ extra. I tried looking though. hmm maybe I need to go and try again? This was my 4th viewing and I was really excited like it was the first time. One thing that did surprise me is that I cried! I did not cry the other times but I was filled with emotion at the scene when the crew of the FD are going towards Will with the chest and knife and the music that played really got the tears rolling. With that being said Sherwood and Leia, after the movie I listened to the soundtrack looking for that music and was sad when it was not there. Sherwood and Ces I also agree with you about Barbossa. He was so much fun! After the movie I always come out in a Piraty mood. :pirate:
serendipity
I only managed 3 viewings, but I still keep remebering favorite scenes. One of my favorite non-Will scenes was part of the Jack/Davey Jones fight on the mast. Jack had the chest and Davey Jones said "You still need the key to open it." Jack replied, "I have the key.". Davey looked confused and said "No, you don't", and pulled it out of his pocket. Jack smiled because he now knew where the key was, and Davey realized he had been tricked, got angry and his beard went wild. That confused looked on Davey Jones' face gets me everytime. Ces
That confused looked on Davey Jones' face gets me everytime. Totally agree on that point serendipity! And the other look I love is when he's chasing Jack around that (for lack of the correct term) turnstile thing and he suddenly realizes he can go through it: Ces
I'mNotHere
And the other look I love is when he's chasing Jack around that (for lack of the correct term) turnstile thing and he suddenly realizes he can go through it: Ces Capstan. I managed to see AWE (or P3, as it's far more commonly known around our house) 4 times before it left the local theatre. (Small town, small theatre - one screen. It was here for 2 weeks.) My desire for a bit more plot/character and a few less explosions (but Jerry must have his booms.) aside, this is my favourite of the three movies. Ever a fan of subtlety, two of my favourite lines were rather unexpected maybe: Davy Jones telling Calypso that his heart would always belong to her (who ever expected to feel sorry for him?) and Bootstrap, in explaining to Elizabeth why Will wouldn't keep his promise; "He won't choose me. [pause.] I wouldn't choose me." The way he says it is positively perfect. My favourite scene, in keeping, was the one aboard the Endeavor - wasn't that Captain Cook's ship? - between Will, (oh, we knew he'd come in here somewhere) Becket and Jones. Orlando was so delightfully understated - and, frankly, such a relief compared to Johnny and Geoffrey's scenery chewing as they tried to top each other (as much as I happen to love them both) - but still absolutely owned the scene. Plus we got to see that no matter how much Will has grown and changed over the course of the movies - and it was far more than any of the other characters - he's still a bit of a dork. (With the globe thing breaking.) Forget Will and Elizabeth, I love the way Will and Jack seemed able to think on the same wavelength. The way Will, all the way through, was in "think like Jack" mode, and the it came around to Jack telling himself "think like the whelp." I don't usually see movies in the theatre more than once, but one thing I discovered during the run of this one was that the reactions of the audience around you is half the fun - different crowds respond to different things. Although my favourite is still the collective mini shriek from the row of teeny fangirls in front of me on opening night when Will is stabbed. Okay so I was right there with them at the time, but in retrospect it amused me. I can't wait for the DVD. Hopefully we get an extended version, with some of the scenes that were cut. Plus, dare we hope, a commentary from Orlando. (My daughter insists that he HAS to do a commentary because he was in almost every scene - but she might have a slightly selective memory about that.) You are so right I'mNotHere, Will is always going to be a bit of a dork! You just know Beckett was practically biting his tongue to stop himself from saying, "...and don't touch anything in here either!" I love Will and Jack together. I would love to see a guys movie with Will, Jack, Barbossa, Gibbs and the rest - it would be so funny. Ces
wanderlust
Looks like this thread is slowing downa bit, wonder why? Is anybody planning to get another viewing in anytime soon? There are still a few theaters in my area playing AWE, I still need to take my good friend who hasn't seen it yet! I would like to go again this weekend or next week. Like many of you have said, it's just so hard to stay away! I just caught my 8th viewing on Thursday. It looks like the last day it'll be showing is this coming Tuesday (when Harry Potter comes out). I might try to see it on Monday. It all depends on whether or not the family I live with have left for their vacation yet. (They are renting an SUV and leaving their car here for me to use. The only way I'll have time to see the movie before work is if I take the car and go straight to work afterwards.)
Sherwood
I saw it for the ninth time today. They had moved it to a smaller theatre but there was a good turnout. I am hoping to catch it once more with a friend of my mother's. We've had a standing date since I took her to see DMC last year. (She's a big history buff.) Here we have the benefit of a theatre on Disney property. Last year and in 2003, the movie was at the theatre until about a week prior to the DVD release. Granted this year, there is a lot more competition out there in the Harry Potters, Tranformers, etc. I enjoyed the movie this time as much as I had in the past despite the little blips in the film - no more digital projection . (In fact, ironically, in the scene after the credits, the film was so worn that we saw the green flash a little earlier than planned. ) One question: Did anyone notice if the figurehead on the FD changed to when Capt. Turner took over? I know there was a skeletonhead there when Davy was captain. I love checking out the little details. Can't wait to see more on the DVD. tatoola
OK finally got round to seeing the film tonight. Worth seeing for Orlando. He looked hot. Very hot. And I though that he had a good spikey sort of chemistry with Jack and Bootstrap. I think I particularly enjoyed the big fight/kiss sequence which made me smile but I thought he did a great job in all his scenes. When I get the DVD I'll probably be fast forwarding through all the other scenes to watch them. tatoola
Christa
Hello! Checking in to say I just surpassed my goal of six times on this one - just had lucky number 7 this afternoon. AWE is now at the cheap theater, if I'm lucky it'll still be there next weekend too! Here's a new observation - I just realized the the tatoo dripping on the one guy in the bathhouse scene is Sao Feng's clue that he's not one of his guys. All of Sao Feng's guys have real tatoos, hence this guy is a fake. I always thought the dripping was just to show you how hot it was in there - well, duh, a real tatoo won't drip! Someone said they think Sao Feng was the informant to the East India Company, but I thought it was this guy. After all, Will says "If he's not with you, and he's not with us, who's he with?" right before the Company's soldiers burst on the scene. Unfortunately, there was a jump in the film at this theater. I missed Jack saying "And that was without a single drop of rum." after blowing himself back to the Pearl. I also missed Jack sending Will to the brig. It jumped from him in mid-flight to Beckett ordering them to follow the Pearl. Oh well. You still can't beat 3 hours of entertainment involving Orlando for only $4! I thought Sao Feng was the "new friend" that Mercer mentions when we see he and Beckett back together on the Endeavor. As Will says, "if you want to make a deal with Beckett, you need what I offer." I belive the tatooed man didn't know anything about the nine pieces of eight. And I am hard-pressed to believe he survived the melee. I went to see the movie again yesterday. I've come full circle now because it was playing in the same theatre I saw it in at midnight opening day. The place was even more packed yesterday. Granted it is a smaller auditorium. I do enjoy these characters so much and I do believe that once it arrives in the cheap theatre, I'll probably go again.

As Will says, "if you want to make a deal with Beckett, you need what I offer." You know, you're right, Sherwood, Will does say that, doesn't he? Must be another case of Orlando's gorgeousness overloading my other senses and clouding my memory. Yup. I tried real hard to spot the Dutchman crewmember in his "pajama suit," to no avail. And I'm sure he won't be on the DVD. If all goes according to plan I should be able to get in an 8th time next weekend. Then I'll be equal to my record for Kingdom of Heaven. Well worth the time and the money, in my book. Must.See.Will.On.The.Beach.Again!!! Christa

Zarya
Well, I saw it for the 9th time tonight. Apparently my local theater brought it back! :cheer: I did catch the skeleton-turned-lady on the back of the Flying Dutchman, but I still wasn't able to see the pajama guy. I have tried every single time to make sense of what Calypso is saying (as the 50ft woman). All I seem to be able to make out so far is "For she loved him." I could be wrong about that though. There's a few more lines of dialogue I can't make out. I'll have to wait for the closed-captioning on the DVD.

I consider this to be something that can be said about Will. Although, it could also be Sao Feng. Think about it, we never get to see that (un)tattooed man again (or was he the one lying dead in the pond on that island?). I think he was just a traitor, a spy for Beckett, but not necessarily the "new friend". There's something very confusing about all this.. I think I need to go see it again.. Yoha
Sherwood, you are correct about the figure head changing. Along with the sailors shedding their fish attributes, the Flying Dutchman also shed all of the heaviness that sailing for Davy Jones had accumulated on itself. Also, the fake tattooed man was a spy for the East India Trading Company. He indeed was the dead man in the pond (Pintel recognizes him from when they were in Singapore). As far as figuring out what Calypso says, I've seen the movie 7 times and I can't make heads or tails out of it. Hopefully the DVD will clear that mystery up. Is anyone else hoping that they do a master directors cut/collectors edition box set of all three movies? Here's hoping!
Sherwood
Sherwood, you are correct about the figure head changing. Along with the sailors shedding their fish attributes, the Flying Dutchman also shed all of the heaviness that sailing for Davy Jones had accumulated on itself. The Flying Dutchman really is a beautiful ship when it loses the crust of barnacles and rust. I love the gold-gilded mouths with the cannons. As far as figuring out what Calypso says, I've seen the movie 7 times and I can't make heads or tails out of it. Hopefully the DVD will clear that mystery up. There was a discussion regarding this on livejournal at POTC_dogwatch (which originally came from the davyjonespotc community on livejournal). You can find it here. But essentially, it seems that Tia Dalma/Calypso is speaking French: "Malfaiteur en Tombeau, Crochir l'Esplanade, Dans l'Fond d'l'eau!" and the author of the original post translates that to "Across all the seas, find (search out) the path to he who wrongfully entombed me!" Although I don't really like the Tia Dalma character in the third film, she becomes more sympathetic when you see the pain on her face as Will tells her that it was Davy Jones that betrayed her. I have often wondered if the rain is essentially symbolic of her tears. I actually thought Will was the "new friend".... When Beckett asks Mercer about those pieces of eight, and Mercer says the "new friend" wouldn't tell, Beckett says: "Then he knows the price of information." I consider this to be something that can be said about Will. Although, it could also be Sao Feng. I think he was just a traitor, a spy for Beckett, but not necessarily the "new friend". My only question there is how Will would know about the pieces of eight prior to listening to Barbossa and Sao Feng. And the location of the Brethern Court's meeting is never mentioned in that conversation. I was wondering if the man from the brothel was the man lying dead in the pond. I never could decide for certain.

I have the junior novelization which describes Tia Dalma speaking that French incantation as the Hai Peng goes over the waterfall down to Davy Jones' locker. The book doesn't say what 50 foot Tia Dalma says after being released, except for "FOOL!" It also confirms that the body in the water was the spy in Sao Feng's bathhouse. Christa
Now, wait a minute ladies, you have me all confused again! Here's what I was going to post last night (the server wasn't behaving at the time): I have tried every single time to make sense of what Calypso is saying (as the 50ft woman). All I seem to be able to make out so far is "For she loved him." I could be wrong about that though. There's a few more lines of dialogue I can't make out. I'll have to wait for the closed-captioning on the DVD. Yes, Zarya, I agree with you on the "For" and "she." Those are the only words I can make sense of. Wish I was a lip reader. Think about it, we never get to see that (un)tattooed man again (or was he the one lying dead in the pond on that island?). I think he was just a traitor, a spy for Beckett, but not necessarily the "new friend". Leia, the guy in the pond was definitely NOT the fake tattoed man. The fake guy had an almost shaved head, whereas the guy in the pond has a long top knot. I assume the fake tatoo guy dies in the bathhouse fight. Okay, I think I have seen this movie too many times.is that even possible?? "Slap me thrice and hand me to me momma!" forget I said that! So now it seems that Calypso is speaking French and the pond guy IS the fake tatoo guy?? Huh. Christa

I thought that she was speaking English as well. It does sound like she starts with, "Fool!" My only problm with the novelizations that are published from scripts is that many times aspects of dialogue and plot are changed once the shooting script is "finalized." I guess I'll wait for the DVD before I make my final judgement on Tia Dalma and the dead man in the pond.
