OMG!! OMG!! OMG!!!

I'm not sure I can come up with anything more coherent than that right now. Complicated, dark, mysterious, heart-wrenching . . . with the touches of levity one really needs in a movie so emotionally packed as this one. I am however, still emotionally drained from the unexpected (at least to me) twist to the ending.

I went to my 8 pm showing. Stepped out to text a few friends (you know who you are  ) and by the time I got back inside to get in line for the midnight show, the line had extended from the front of the 30 screen megaplex, down the hall to the wing with the smaller theaters (where the 3 or 4 screens with the 9 pm showing were still playing), down the hallway and out the back door. When I got to the back door, I decided that I would skip the midnight showing and get there bright and early with my niece and nephew in the am for our 10:45 showing.

Hopefully more later when I'm a bit more coherent.

I just got home from seeing it and I have to echo zoe_bear's sentiment:

OMG! OMG! OMG!!!!!!!!

What a fabulous movie. There was action! There was romance! There was a undead monkey!

I'll definitley be seeing it again soon.

My overall impression (spoiler avoiders, GO AWAY) was one of great pride in Orlando and the whole cast, and in what Ted and Terry, and the whole crew were able to do with this story. Brilliantly done.

I do feel, however, that it went OTT in a few areas–complexity of the plot, and the visual effects, the number of characters that they tried to give a face to. It was just TOO much to comprehend, and too confusing. I know it's meant to be a multiple view film for full comprehension of what actually happened, but I'm not sure I can do that this time, considering the way certain storylines were resolved. When I really LOVE an ending, and I walk out feeling completely satisfied and complete, I can watch a film many more times than when the ending leaves me feeling bitter sweet, or deflated–yearning for some other outcome, even if that type of ending were to be judged by some as trite and predictable. Sometimes you just want gooey perfection, you know?

On another note, there were a couple of scenes where I was like "what the hell were they thinking?" and which could have been comfortably left on the floor of the editing room, or shot completely differently–I mean…a 100 ft tall, bellowing Naomi Harris?

Hehehe . . . I was thinking "what the HELL" during that scene. :lmao:

I have to see it again in the morning with my niece and nephew. I'll see how it plays out on a second showing. Maybe I won't feel quite so raw when leaving the theater tomorrow.

Oh my god!

This movie completely and utterly blew me away. A roller coaster of emotions that has you laughing one minute and then crying the next.

We got to the theatre early, and the screen that we were on had not finished yet. When everybody was coming out I had to stand there with my fingers in my ears going :lalala: .

I'd forgotten about the rumour of what happens to our darling Will, so then spent the 5 minutes after that scene with my hand clapped over my mouth thinking oh :censor: .

I would kill to get my hands on screencaps of the end bit, looking hot! :hott:

Still haven't recovered emotionally yet.

I'll echo many of Geri's sentiments. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie once everything started to come together but I found probably the first half lacked direction and didn't really convince me.

I think every character performed really well and individual scenes were absolute genius but I felt something was missing early on, in my opinion I emphasise.

Overall, though, I look back with a smile and the story did "get to me" emotionally so that has to be a good thing. I also didn't think Orlando "faded into the background" at all, as some of the more critical reviews have said. I thought his story was one of the most significant and the way his and Keira's stories were concluded was touching and fantastically well acted by both of them.

I have no doubt this movie will be a smash hit at the box office but I can see it lays itself open to a mauling by our esteemed friends, "the critics." :bat:

I'm off to see it a second time tonight so would emphasise I would recommend it to anyone but I'll be interested to see how I feel about the first half second time around.

I just got home from the theatre.

I have so much to say, well, too much to say actually, but what I want to make clear is: If you don't seen the end clippage after the credits, it ruins the entire movie.

I have to say I was reallly upset with the ending, I ranted to my friend who was unfortunate enough to see the movie through the whole credits about it :tomato:. But the end made me smile and to me it made the film more.resolved at least, to a point where I could accept the ending and let myself believe in the happily ever after. Especially when they started chanting about "part of crew, part of ship" to Will and I realized what they were going to do :blow:. I coudn't stop staring at the scar on his chest for the rest of the movie.

That's something that caught me off guard. Not disppaointed mind you, but I expected a fairy tail happily ever after and didn't get it. I like how lauren33 put it, as "a roller coaster of emotions" because that's exactly how I felt! I was very very impressed though and I think AWE is a very appropriate title for the movie .

I was a little shocked by Jack too. I loved the entire scene of him in Davy Jones Locker: the utter obscurity of it all had me laughing so hard people stared. Not too impressed with the giant Calypso either, it made me think of Gullivers Travels, but it kept the Disney characteristics in it.

Overall, it was truly heartwrenching. I'm going to see it at least another time while it's sill in theatres just this weekend and hopefully more while I can!

Elfdancr here, delurking for the first time in a LONG time to chip in on the movie. Hope y'all don't mind!

I got the good fortune of finding a theatre close to me with an 8:45 show tonight; having been completely and utterly unspoiled to this point, I honestly had no idea what to expect from At World's End (I knew to expect some Orlando, and that was the main selling point *lol*). And I came out of the theater tonight.not quite knowing exactly what I saw. Today hadn't been the most ideal day, so maybe it was just a matter of being in the right mood, but the movie as a whole just felt like too much. Storylines flung every which way, characters and ships strewn all around, trinkets everywhere, spacey sequences that aren't fully explained.everything but the kitchen sink, and I'm sure that was thrown in somewhere along the way too--I'll catch it on second viewing. *lol*

I'll completely echo Geri's sentiments on complimenting the actors and writers on their efforts, especially Keira and Orlando, whose characters were taken to more serious levels of development and who both did a phenomenal job with the material. But for me? It was just too much, period, and I found myself reflecting on the simple yet effective goodness of the first Pirates movie. More is not always more, especially with characters that an audience already loves and identifies with. I would've loved to see the characters shine primarily, and for the story surrounding them to be both interesting and comprehensive. But that's modern Hollywood for ya. Not a bad movie per se, just a tad too cluttered for my own personal tastes.

Of course, none of this actually mattered after a certain scene close to the end of the movie wiped out close to 3 million of my brain cells instantly. Or more. I lost count, to be honest. :O

Those who have seen it know *exactly* what I'm talking about, and those who have yet to see it.tread carefully, everybody. Consider yourselves warned. And get plenty of ice in your sodas. :smoke:

I am still stunned! I am definitely of the same opinion as nezisme, this is without a doubt Will's movie. He shines, he rocks, he leaves you breathless. And I was satisfied with the ending because it gave Orlando something to really, really sink his teeth into and it just seems so right that it would happen. I think the movie was the best of the three. And there were scenes that Orlando did that were just amazing. You will cry, more than once.

And if you don't stay through the credits you will not forgive yourself when you learn what it is.

When more people have seen the movie it will be fun to discuss several areas including the conclusion of Will's story.

Amazing job by everyone.

PS: Like others have mentioned there is a certain scene that I would definitely liked to have seen much, much more of. However, what they show will most assuredly get your blood up. I'm hoping there will be an extended scene in the future DVD. Please?

For now, I'll just give my first impressions.

I guess I'm like most of you who have seen the movie. I arrived home completely drained, full of mixed feelings and with a very strong desire to see it again. Being trite, I'd say I was in awe after seeing A.W.E. To me, the 'over the top' and overblown scenes were pure fantasy. It was the personal stories that mattered and gripped, and kept the movie on course. Orlando was superlative. It was his movie. Keira may have had a smidgen more screen time, but Orlando's role had the most impact. He has presence and has really matured as an actor. When he's on the screen, you don't see anybody else.

IMHO the ending was a masterpiece of writing, and if you don't stay until the end of the credits (almost as long a time as the movie) you'll regret it.

I'll certainly be seeing it again, never do catch all the nuances first time around, or even the second! We will miss him on the big screen in these wonderful epic films.

We watched the 8:00's last night with a crowd totally into the movie. Quiet when needed, gasps, applause and finally the standing ovation and a bunch of AWWWWWS at the end end end scene that seemed to tie everything up in a way that I fit the characters and followed thru on the theme. We had the most fun linking stuff back to the first movie, the sword Will made, and others that I won't spoil. Overall it was a ride, thoroughly enjoyable and in the ending touchingly bittersweet but you have to stay for that last scene to get that feeling. I think it tied up the situation well for three movies and they just need to leave it at that and move along. Great for Orlando and Kiera and Johnny and even Geoffrey.

What a night at the movies! I honestly cannot remember, when I have been moved so utterly by a movie recently. Well, there was "Haven", but apart from that.

I had dutifully watched the trailers and featurettes, before I went to the cinema, and I thought I was mentally prepared for everything, but I was completely unaware of how the movie trilogy would end.

Of course we should all have expected an emotionally dark ending, after Will being called a person with "a touch of destiny about him", but I was still utterly surprised and shocked by what happened within the last 20 minutes of the film.

After the wedding I thought for a short while, that the movie would drift towards a happy ending. But I was so wrong!

I have to admit, the script is brilliant. Will's destiny is fully compatible with the tone of the second and third movie. There is the entertaining mix of funny scenes and great heartwrenching drama in the movie. But the drama seemed to concentrate increasingly around the character of Will Turner, and so in my opinion the end is perfect and fits the mood of the second and third movie.

I would have wished for Elizabeth and Will to have a happier life, though.

I loved the movie, particularly the mood changes, the character development and the many small scenes, that hinted back to the first two movies (the sword, the monkey, the music, etc.). It all made me smile nostalgically.

I also was impressed by the way, how the scriptwriters managed to bring new meaning to seemingly unsignificant little facts, such as the wooden eyeball.

Johnny Depp did a fantastic job, as always, and so did the rest of the cast. But Orlando's performance stood out. The tender scenes between Bootstrap and his son near the end, the sadness on his face as he gazes toward the horizon, the scene, when he unsuccessfully wants to close the gap between Elizabeth and himself, it all brought tears to my eyes! His development as an actor is tangible in every scene.

He will certainly do well on stage.

A short comment at the end of my (rather long, sorry!) musings: I was emotionally drenched at the end of the movie; throughout the film I was captivated and excited, and sometimes shocked. Therefore I would like to say a word of caution to you out there with impressionable kids. It is not a kids' movie, although it bears the name of Disney. There are mass executions, dead parents, the death of a few main characters, and young children could be bothered by those scenes.

I shall take my 7-year old niece to see it, and I am sure she will love the funny bits, but I shall make sure to talk to her afterwards in order to avoid bad dreams.

And by taking her I will be able to see the movie again! :cheer:

I absolutely loved the movie. I found the beginning to be rather slow. The middle confusing and the end to be the most romantic film Orlando has done yet. (I believe because we have watched him struggle so long with Elizabeth.)

What I can't get my head around is how I did not see that coming! I can not tell you how long I looked at one specific picture we received, but never made the connection! Then, when things got chaotic I thought, with a tinge of fear "When will we see that picture I have been admiring?" That is when it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I agree they should have cut out some things. I think I will need to see it at least three more times just to get what was going on, and to understand what some of the pirates were saying. I did not leave the theater once, but I never got what happened with the Kraken, hubby had to explain it to me. I am sure I will have to review it again after seeing it again Sunday.

Didn't you just love Will with the teacup? The end was so very sweet. The thought of those screencaps may just do me in.

I highly doubt it, Adrianne. It's a Disney film, afterall. In fact, I was a little shocked they showed as much as they did. I think the rest is meant to be left to our very fertile imaginations, and I rather prefer it that way–don't you?

I am still having difficulty wrapping my head around everything that happened in AWE. Like many others have said, there were a lot of plots and sub-plots to follow. I felt like I needed that navigational chart. Up is down, indeed! It was very confusing and almost obvious that poor Ted and Terry were writing the script as the shoot went along. At this point, I will say that I am disappointed with that aspect. With multiple viewings, it might become at least more cohesive.

That said, I think the actors did a marvelous job of dealing with what they had. The discussion that Will had with the man holding the lantern from DMC lingered with me so I somewhat saw it coming. Even so, I was just shocked at the way it played out. I was glad I had tissues along because I needed them several times toward the end.

I was also floored at how much Disney did show of the scene many of you have alluded to. I think that they pushed the envelope of the PG-13 rating a bit. Oh, and does anyone else agree that we finally have something comparable to the Legolas money shot from ROTK? I'd love to have that shot blown up as a poster for my wall. Errol Flynn has nothing on Orlando Bloom.

Yeah, I thought it was merely wishful thinking. However, I see great fodder for fanfic writers out there. Good Grief!

Oh beyond a doubt Sherwood, a billion dollar money shot! I cannot wait to see the screen caps from this movie. There were so many of Orlando that just took my breath away.

Speaking of which, I have had a few hours to mull this over and I have to, once again, say how amazing Orlando is in this movie. Everything else aside, his performance makes this movie worth the price. He has scenes with almost every major character, intimate moments that are absolute pieces of genius. I wish I could be more specific but I can't without bringing in spoilers. Someone else mentioned it, that Orlando steals every scene he is in. It's true. The second half of the movie is all his. And he does it all with such understated elegance. He will break your heart. Don't ever EVER tell me this man can't act.

By the way, I didn't have any trouble following the story line or the different pieces that were all woven together.

Oh my, I'm so bad with words, but the movie was fantastic. I loved every minute, even the slightly gross moments. I'm definitely going to try and see it again. Love the ending, although that's kind of what I though it would be. I still loved it, and waiting through the credits was worth it. It was an excellent ending for a wonderful trilogy.

Too long, too loud, too much Elizabeth (and not enough Will). I did cry during Will and Bootstrap's final exchange, and the very last shot of Will (on the Dutchman) was almost worth the price of admission, but overall I was distinctly underwhelmed.

I went to the 8:00 showing of this last night. I'll try to keep it short and sweet. First of all, I want to say that Orlando did a beautiful job with the character progression of Will Turner. You can see differences in all three films.

I'm not sure what I thought of AWE overall.. I'm not sorry I went though.

There was a lot going on though, it reminded me of someone's fever dream or something.

I agree with Alisonelaine, the cinematography was beautiful.

I loved Johnny Depp's performance, and I can see how another movie, might have been possible with his character, but if the storyline's not well-developed enough and his schedule is full. I think this should be it for POTC, as far as Captain Jack is concerned, although I will miss him.

I think they could have done better as far as the release of Calypso thing as well. I thought it was going along fine until they did the giant effect thing with Naomie Harris. I couldn't understand what Calypso said, once she was released either.

The viewing audience I watched with applauded when Keith Richards appeared. I noticed a few people in pirate garb in the viewing audience also. One guy even had on a leather coat, like Will's in DMC. Another guy even brought swords (plastic) with him.

I can't say anymore without revealing spoilers.

If you haven't seen it, and even if you have, you will definitely laugh and cry. Don't forget your Kleenex!

I know the scene you are referring to Iris426 and Adrianne

:hott: Guess sometimes less really is more.

OK, I got up this morning and hied myself to theater for the earliest matinee and I haven't stopped grinning since I walked out of the place.

Oh my hairy gods! What a gift.

The next time I read/see/hear some fool going off on how sad and overrated Orlando is I will laugh in their face. :neener:

The kid brings my joy. .

I loved the movie on the whole (thought some of it could have been trimmed, but so it goes) and I thought it was a grand ending to the trilogy. I'll be going back every time I need a laugh and/or a lift all summer. There were even a few places that made me cry. and that's okay, too. I think these writers & director have hit a grand slam.

And now I am going to go back to the boards and read all the reviews and comments I have denied myself trying to stay unspoiled. (I didn't fully succeed, but enough that I thoroughly enjoyed it and was mostly surprised.)

I hope this one blows all the other summer movies out of the water and I think Orlando is a gift from the gods to make us all happy.

Indeed. :P

Arrrrrggggh! I'll see you in the discussion,

.

I just got back from seeing A.W.E. and I was just blown away by it all. Orlando was outstanding and I cried when that part came on, I had a feeling it was coming but it still tore my heart. :blow: The scenes between Will & Elizabeth that we were all waiting for and the ones with Will & Bootstrap on the Dutchman were beautiful. I am also glad I stayed through the credits to see that beautiful scene with Will & Elizabeth. :throb: Like others have said, Orlando carried this movie and I am so proud of him for the great performance he gave in this.

The visual effects were amazing, it was a very well acted movie, exciting and emotional and I am definitely going to see this one again and a friend of mine does want to see it, so I will be going with her next week! :cheer:

I went to my second viewing of the film today and the experience was even more enjoyable. The dialogue resonated more and I was even more emotionally involved than I was last night. The scene with Elizabeth when she sees her father again is one of the most emotional moments in the film and my heart bled for her :blow:

There were many scenes which pulled at my heart strings and ones that made me gasp with shock but, overall, the film did what it set out to do---it entertained me enough that I thought about it even after the film had ended and I couldn't wait to see it again. There are not many films these days were multiple viewings are planned before a film has even opened

I'm going for my #3 viewing tomorrow and my eyes will be firmly set on Orlando and his wonderful, mature, thoughtful performance. He stole the film for me and it is a pleasure to watch an actor with such a talent that he has

Okay, I know I haven't posted on here since God knows how long, but I wanted to let you all know that I will be going to see it tonight. The movie starts @ 8:20 pm and I get off work at 8 pm. Which means I have to break the law to get there on time. My sister's getting the tickets now. Maybe I can beg my boss to let me off a few minutes early.

If all else fails, I can feign illness and get off work. LOL!!!!!

I'll be sure to give an honest, unbiased review. But I'm not making any promises. I'm quiet biased when it comes to a certain pirate. :shiny:

Okay, a few thoughts from a second viewing. Though I loved the movie the first time I really enjoyed it more the second. The main reason I think is that I could focus on all the characters "intentions" instead of anxiously awaiting Will to come on screen.

I am now ready to argue with anyone who thought the movie confusing.though I wouldn't have been able to do so after seeing AWE only once. I loved what MovieImp said about seeing many things from the first movies and how they were used in AWE. I do want to ask a question? Wasn't it the sword Will made in P!1 that,... him? The most difficult thing was watching "that scene". I wasn't ready to see it again even though I knew the final after the credits ending. I think it will always be heart-wrenching to see it.

Also, I don't think the script was made up as they went.too brilliant.the directors had to know where they were going to be able to put it all together and have a resolution to each character's "intentions." The only part I would like to have seen done a different way was the release of Calsypo.my first thought was "the 100 foot woman." I have tons of other questions and comments, but will hold off until more ka-bloomies have had their first or second viewings. I'm hoping for my third tomorrow.
