Thanks, Patty, that's more like it. My faith in mankind (and movie editors) has been restored.

Kudos to the POTC2 team, they are really raking in the noms, huh? I have to say, almost any other year they'd be a slam dunk for their respective categories, but there are some impressive contenders this time. Crossing my fingers that trophies follow these nominations!

Pirates Plunder Visual f/x Awards

Chest takes six VES trophies by David S. Cohen

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" raided the Visual Effects Society Awards Sunday night and sailed off with six wins, including the two top awards: outstanding visual effects in a visual-effects-driven picture and single visual effect of the year. The box office blockbuster, with effects by Industrial Light & Magic, entered the night with the most nominations, and won every category for which it was nominated. Other wins for "Pirates" were animated character in a live-action motion picture (for pic's villain, Davy Jones); created environment in a live-action motion picture; models and miniatures in a motion picture; and compositing in a motion picture.

This was in today's Variety. To refresh your memory (and mine), these are the catagories and winners:

Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

John Knoll, Jill Brooks, Hal Hickel, Charlie Gibson

Best Single Visual Effect of the Year

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest-Flying Dutchman Sequence

John Knoll, Ned Gorman, Jakub Pistecky, Tom Fejes

Outstanding Animated Characterin a Live Action Motion Picture

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Davy Jones, Steve Walton, Jung-Seung Hong, Marc Chu, James Tooley

Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Motion Picture

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Chris Stoski, Susumu Yukuhiro, Jack Mongovan, Greg Salter

Outstanding Models and Miniatures in a Motion Picture

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Bruce Holcomb, Ron Woodall, Charlie Bailey, Carl Miller

Outstanding Compositing in a Motion Picture

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Eddie Pasquarello, Francois Lambert, Jeff Sutherland, Tory Mercer

Just a FYI, John Knoll of ILM, along with his brother, invented Photoshop. He stuck with the product until Photoshop3 before he sold out and moved on to film visual f/x. With all the Photoshopping that is done by ka-Bloomies, I found that trivia interesting.

Only 2 days left to vote for the Kids' Choice Awards. POTC, Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley are nominees. This awards show will be aired this Saturday March 31 at 8 pm/7 central on Nickelodeon. You can vote once each day (now they tell me!).

Is this the show where the winners get slimed with the green goo?

Yes, HS you are right this is the one with the green slime. According to Babyjane on OL that she read on Live Journal that someone who's working on the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards that Orlando is supposed to be there. When I went to look at the list of presenters his name was not on there, but I remember back in 2005 that I read somewhere that Johnny was supposed to be on there. So I looked on the list and his name was not on there either and it turned out he was the secret celebrity that was going to be slimed. I'm just guessing since the same thing is happening with Orlando, then maybe he might be the secret celebrity guess to get slimed tonight.
