"And there's a problem with the blue suit that I can't put my finger on..." Sorry, wrong movie. The costume that launched a thousand captions: Orlando as the nefarious Duke of Buckingham in The Three Musketeers.

November 11, 2010. BAMBI Awards. Filmpark Babelsberg, Potsdam, Germany.

A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2009, "Lord of the Rings" star Bloom won the Bambi Charity Award on Thursday night for his humanitarian work with children in some of the world's poorest regions.

"He always makes time to travel to distant countries so he can draw attention to the destitution faced by children and the work done by charities," the jury said, explaining its decision.

The Bambi Awards are Germany's most important media prizes and have been awarded every year since 1948 to "people with vision and creativity, whose outstanding successes and achievements have been reported in the media."

November 12, 2010. Cinema For Peace Green Evening, China Club, Berlin, Germany.

This event was to promote Sebastian Copeland's fascinating movie "Into the Cold" and at the same time showcase the power of moving pictures in raising awareness about environmental issues. "Into The Cold - A Journey Of The Soul" retraces two men's dramatic expedition to the North Pole covering more than 400 miles on foot. A journey of endurance and commitment, it delves into the depth of the soul against the backdrop of the magnificent Great North.

Our thanks to Orlando for continuing to inspire and entertain us at the highest level, and heartfelt good wishes to him and his family for happiness, success, love and good health in 2011!

June 2, 2010. International Dyslexia Foundation Adam Jeffrey Katz Memorial Lecture Series, The Rockefeller University, New York.

"Creativity is the key for any child with dyslexia, or for anyone for that matter. Then you can think outside of the box," said Bloom. "Teach them anything is attainable. Let them run with what you see is whatever they need to run with."

Growing up, he was able to capitalize on his acting talent, his natural leadership (captain of the school soccer team, of the hockey team ... ) and his "way with the ladies" (he sheepishly admitted he could often get by with "a wink and a smile"). "I'm lucky," he conceded. "I've always been lucky."

"It's not a disability; it's a challenge," he said. Even an opportunity. Dyslexic children grow up to be brilliant doctors, lawyers, actors, writers and inventors. Bloom encouraged kids to never give up on their dreams: "Take this obstacle and make it the reason to have a big life."

From his gracious and quite funny acceptance speech,

What an honour it is to be here for such an occasion. What a wonderful experience! And I mean that quite literally: I am in wonder – I’m wondering how on earth I got here! The truth is I am truly humbled by this moment that I share with you all today.

So - I suppose - although I have no words of wisdom to offer you, I do have one lesson to pass along: a lesson I continue to learn as I go. There are no stepping stones, no stages, and no upward path to follow. There are only moments that deserve and require our full commitment – every one.

The man of many hats found time to stop by and help with the building of the New Marlowe Theatre.

"Canterbury and The Marlowe Theatre hold a special place in my heart and I'm delighted that I've been invited to be a Patron of The New Marlowe Theatre campaign. Regional theatres like the Marlowe are an integral part of the community, and they have a vital role to play in bringing people together from all backgrounds. I feel passionately about engaging young people in the performing arts, and I will do all that I can to encourage the region's youngsters to be inspired by The New Marlowe Theatre."

Hugo Boss Orange for Men is a powerful scent that embodies the free, optimistic and joyful spirit of a man. That man is passionate, casual, spontaneous and relaxed. The composition is intensely spicy with notes of fresh apple, vanilla, warm incense and exotic African Bubinga wood. The brand chose the actor Orlando Bloom for their campaign, as his appearance, his style, personality and cool attitude perfectly embody the image of the Boss Orange brand.

  5. Thank you, everyone, for my lovely goodie bag which arrived today. The jewelry and bookmark are beautiful and Geri's graphics are perfect as always. I wasn't expecting anything so this was a real surprise. I couldn't believe how many special things were in there; it was like Christmas. I'm enjoying a cup of tea in my new mug and thinking of you all.

  6. As he did last year, Orlando has signed a bandanna for auction to support CanTeen, a New Zealand organization for teenagers with cancer. The auction is being run by trademe.co.nz here. Peter Jackson, Johnny Depp, and Keira Knightley are among the other celebrities who contributed a bandanna to the auction.

  7. Excellent work, ladies.

I didn't get around to sending my donation in yet, so I'll do it now and you can have a round $900. We had talked before about putting an option into the Booty Shop for people to donate as well, and I still think that would be a great idea.

  8. From Variety:

    Disney, Depp return to 'Caribbean'

Actor also signs on for 'Ranger,' 'Wonderland'

Johnny Depp is the main man at the Mouse House.

Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" pic and play Tonto in a bigscreen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of "Alice in Wonderland."

The roles come after Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the "Pirates" franchise, also produced by Bruckheimer.

Depp’s casting deals closed a full day Wednesday at the Kodak Theater, where Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook touted the Mouse’s upcoming slate of pics during a showcase event for exhibitors, media and other industry insiders.

No word on other casting, but we'll keep a weather eye out.

  9. From UNICEF, with the full article here

KATHMANDU, Nepal, 23 September 2008 – ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Koora’ (Chatting with My Best Friend), a radio programme produced by a team of young professionals from the non-governmental organization Equal Access Nepal, has won the 2008 International Children's Day for Broadcasting (ICDB) regional award for South Asia.

Targeted at teenagers and young adults, the ‘edutainment’ programme was initiated by UNICEF in 2001 in Nepal and is now being broadcast every week over the national radio network and 45 other local FM stations with UNICEF and USAID support.

Listenership has grown enormously in the past seven years. Every week, about 6.5 million young people from Nepal and beyond tune in to listen to the hour-long programme of songs, drama and youthful banter, with a contemporary approach to serious issues such as HIV/AIDS.

The programme has liberated children and adolescents too shy to talk about such topics. It has also provided a forum for an exchange of information and knowledge among young people on issues that really interest them.

"Our winning entry was the programme that we aired in early December 2007," says co-host Sangita Budathoki. "The one-hour programme with its usual segments of chat, drama, songs, letters and information revolved around the ICDB theme of ‘The world we want’. The message ... was that young people can play a big role in ensuring that children get the world they wanted and deserved.”

The drama featured Hollywood star Orlando Bloom, who was then on a trip to see UNICEF's programmes in Nepal.

"The children wrote a play about their problems, and gave Orlando a role to give a tip to the children on how things could be solved if everyone worked together," said Sangita. "Orlando was also involved in a discussion programme with the children where he asked them what they envisioned for themselves in the future. The answers given by the boys and girls formed the bulk of the ICDB special programme."

This is not the first taste of international recognition for Equal Access and Saathi Sanga Manka Koora. In November 2007, the programme was also honoured with the Global Junior Challenge Award by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the Presidential Palace in Rome.

"Studies have repeatedly shown that 'Saathi Sanga Manka Koora' is the most popular radio programme for young people in the country today," says Country Director for Equal Access Nepal Nirmal Rijal. "What started as a programme to equip young people with life skills for adopting safe behaviour has expanded and grown to deal with a whole spectrum of issues that concern Nepali adolescents and youth."

  10. Just to check I'm cutting them right, is the 5.5 inches the measurement along the picture, so that the cut is exactly either side of the picture, or is that the 5.75 inches, with some white space at the sides of the picture?

I cut the others to 5.75 inches wide by 5.5 inches long, which leaves a small border of white space on each side of the picture. It doesn't need to be exact as the chocolate bar itself is 5.5 inches wide and the entire wrapper is 6 3/8 inches.
